Custom pet bowls

FauxPaw Productions has the most gorgeous, custom designed products, including their gorgeous dog bowls. Each bowl is designed by artist Debby Carman with one of a kind original artwork. My favorite is Barnacle since I love seaside type art and trinkets. Not only do they have bowls though, they also carry trivets, treat jars, paintings, sculptures and even more. They also offer cat products as well. The dog bowls run about $45 for a large one but they are all hand made! So if you're looking for the perfect gift or just want something to spoil your pet with, check them out.

The healthy dog food that your pup will love

Ever since the pet food recall, I have been very careful about what I feed my dog Baxter. I have skipped all supermarket brands and tried a variety of specialty, all-natural pet foods that I felt good about. Unfortunately, Baxter did not feel good about these foods and would sniff and walk away when I put his food bowl down. It took a lot of trial and error (and wasted bags of food) until I found Merrick's Turducken - a food that both Baxter and I can agree on!

Merrick's Turducken is made in America with only organic chicken and freeze-dried vegetables and no artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. All ingredients are human grade and best of all, when mixed with warm water a tasty gravy is formed which your dog will flip for.

I can honestly say that Merrick's Turducken, is the first food that my dog truly enjoys and he now eats each meal as soon as the bowl hits the floor. I feel much better knowing that he is eating a healthy food and that he truly enjoys it! You can order Merrick's Pet Food online or check out a list of stores near you where you can give it a try.

Handmade, Organic Dog Cuisine Fit to your Dogs Needs

Over the past few years, I have made the transition from "regular" food to all organic food for my family (as many people have done). This trend to more natural, wholesome and organic foods has also taken hold of the pet food market.

I was recently introduced to eModernDog -- a very unique and cutting-edge organization -- that combines modern technology, leading research, and old-world craftmanship to feed our dogs. Their latest program, Organic Nutrition Express (O.N.E) is a quick and easy way to get homemade, organic, nutritious meals directly to your pet.

The food consists of organic and naturally raised bison, chicken and/or turkey and is blended by hand with locally farmed organic vegetables and seasoned with anti-oxidant herbs and oils.

What's so amazing about this program is that the food and diet is customized specifically for your dog. Should your dog have specific allergies, a condition requiring certain foods or food avoidance, or weight issues, you can be confidant that your dog will be eating healthy, appropriate meals for their breed, body type, and conditions.

Getting involved in this program is simple. Check out the website and review the various programs. Complete a form to help determine which food and recipies would be best for your dog. Then email owner Daryll (very hands on and so nice!) with the form, any questions and to get involved. Once you place your order, your dogs meals will be made and then frozen, and shipped to you within 48 hours. (If you live in the LA area, you can have your meals delivered or can pick them up.)

Take advantage of a fabulous 20% discount with code TSP-517123 on all first orders. Your dog will love you for it!

A Holistic, Natural Dog Supplement (and it's tasty too!)

An impressive intelligence, a striking physique, and an utter fondness and devotion toward his or her person make the Pit Bull Terrier a perfect companion. But there are also a few minor ailments characteristic to this breed: My dog Ruby, a Pit mix, has some dry skin issues and a very weak stomach.

Last winter I noticed that Ruby’s ID collar was rubbing against her skin and causing the hair around her neck to fall out. I went to my local pet store looking for a “skin and coat” formula of some sort and found exactly what I needed: Nupro All Natural Dog Supplement.

Nupro is a holistic powder that, when added to your dog’s food with a bit of water, creates a tasty gravy. One of the ingredients is desiccated (dried) liver, a flavor that is very palatable to dogs, so even the most picky eaters are sure to enjoy it. The liver also works to supply your dog with Iron and Vitamin B.

Other ingredients include Norwegian Kelp, which is a great natural source of minerals and vitamins that work to benefit your dog's overall health, specifically aiding in bone strength and growth, a strong heart rate, and a sound nervous system. Norwegian Kelp will also sustain muscular strength, and is great for your dog’s coat.

Micro-pulverized Bee Pollen, considered a natural “superfood,” supports a healthy immune system, and also helps to control any allergies your dog may have.

Imported Yeast Culture is another awesome ingredient included in a dose of Nupro. Not only does it support a healthy coat, but also may control excessive shedding, hot spots, and dry skin. This ingredient makes Nupro especially superior to other brands, as most use cheaper yeasts made from grains in which many animals are highly allergic. Yeast Culture is grown on sugar beets, without the use of grains, eliminating the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Nupro also provides your pet with essential Omega 3 fatty acids, a healthy does of fiber, and works to ward off possible types of infection. Lactobacillus Acidophilus aides in digestion and produces healthy intestinal bacteria.
All of the all natural ingredients in Nupro are raw and human grade, and Nupro contains no Sugar, Filler, Preservatives, or By-Products. By adding this supplement to Ruby’s food every morning and evening, I not only made her meals more enjoyable, but I also helped control her dry skin and made her a more overall healthy canine in the process. For more information or a sample of the product call 1-800-360-3300.

Divine Dingos

Ever since my dog was a wee pup, he's been addicted to Dingo rawhide chews. Say the word "Dingo" around him, and he'll start jumping in the air like kangaroo on a trampoline.

I am very particular about the rawhide I buy - in fact, Dingos are the only rawhide products I allow my dog to eat. Dingo "Meat in the Middle" products are made from natural rawhide wrapped around real meat, pork or chicken. They are high in protein and low in fat, and protect against tartar build up in teeth. They come in various sizes and shapes to suit every size breed. Axel, my wire-haired fox terrier, though quite a big chap for his breed standard, is partial to the mini Dingo bones (pictured right). Upon receiving one, he usually carries it excitedly around the house in his mouth looking for a suitable burial spot. Once the ideal location is found, he will proceed to bury it with diligent intent, usually in the couch, dirty washing basket or under my pillow. After anything from a few minutes to half an hour, he will invariably cave to temptation, unearth the precious treat, and spend at least half an hour chewing and devouring it. Keeping a terrier out of mischief for so protracted a period of time, is what I have come to rely on Dinogos for. They have never let me down.

A pack of seven Dingo minis will set you back about $3.50 - a good deal for such a quality treat. All Dingo products are on sale online at Petco from now until July 27. Also look for the minis in the Pet food aisle at Rite-Aid pharmacies where I usually find them at their cheapest.

Ceramic Feeding Bowls and Treat Jars for Your Pets

I think it is so nice when I go into another pet owners home and see fun and whimsical things for their pets. It could be a pet themed picture frame or a cool piece of art having something to do with the family pet.

Why not show your love and admiration for your family pet with a beautiful piece of pottery that is also functional. At Petware Pottery (www.petwarepottery.com) you can find all kinds of bowls and treat jars for your favorite dog or cat. They come in all sizes and colors. Petware Pottery designs their products with fun dots or stripes, and in the middle of the bowls, you can find either a bone or a picture of a dog or cat.

What I like most about these bowls and treat jars are that they are made with lead free glazes and slips. In addition, they can be placed into the dishwasher and are microwave safe (in case your dog is like mine, and prefers his food heated up).

If you are a pet store owner and would like to purchase some of these bowls, the company is offering you a 10% discount on your order. For everyone else, please go to the Petware Pottery website to see a listing of where you can find and purchase these terrific bowls and treat jars yourself.

Portable water bowl - a summer essential!

In the Philadelphia area it has been HOT! A trip to the dog park or a hike in Fairmont Park with my puppy Baxter can be very exhausting in such hot temperatures and I am constantly making sure that both of us are getting plenty of water. Originally I envisioned myself being able to train Baxter to drink out of a water bottle so I would not have to carry around a bowl. Unfortunately, I have been somewhat unsuccessful and find that I end up wasting our water as he desperately tries to lick it out of the small bottle, resulting in a puddle in the dirt at his feet (which he then steps in, of course).

Luckily, carrying around a bowl is not such a headache with the Hydro Bowl from Barker and Meowsky. It is made out of a durable and waterproof plastic canvas and best of all, it folds up and snaps together into a small triangle, making it extremely portable. For only $7.95, the Hydro Bowl is what I will be carrying around this summer to make sure that I have my hands free and Baxter is hydrated during our outdoor adventures!

Need a cool mat for your dog's bowls?

I just realized tonight, as my son was grabbing my dog's bowls and lifting them up (and spilling all of the water out of them) that I have nothing under the bowls. This is a problem for a number of reasons. 1) It doesn't look good. (Why has it been like this for so long?) 2) My floor is unprotected! (especially with a 1-year old constantly spilling water on the floor!) and 3) It's not as clean and sanitary as it would be with a mat.

Why it took me so long to realize this I have no idea. But I do know that I will be ordering one of the adorable (and inexpensive) feeding mats from Floyd and Jake. This cute online boutique, (which offers a number of other awesome items for your dog like attire, spa items, collars, beds, and more) has a couple different styles to choose from.

I love the Stripey Dog Mat, which is a vinyl feeding mat with multi-color stripes with line images of dogs. It is 18”x 12” and sells for $7.50! But there are a number of adorable, fun, and funky styles to choose from, including some vintage designs, too.

Does your dog eat too fast?

My dog is a HUGE pig. I know that most dogs love food, but my puggle takes it to a new level. First of all, she starts begging for food hours before she is supposed to eat. Her once 5pm dinner time has moved to 4pm, then 3pm, and now she gets fed around 2pm. In addition to that, she scarfs down her food in a matter of seconds. Nothing can stand in her way once that food is put down in her bowl.

So I was pretty curious about the DogPause bowl when I first learned about it. In clinical tests run by professional vets, DogPause slowed down dogs by an average of 50% vs. standard dog bowls. And vets have found that when dogs eat slower, they are happier, healthier and have less risk of experiencing (or doing) things like vomiting, gas, belching, gagging, experiencing life-threatening bloat, etc.

Check out this video clip of Hank with both his regular dog bowl and his DogPause bowl. Like Hank, Maggie ate her food much more slowly than her traditional bowl. Though I didn't time it, the time she had to take when moving from quadrant to quadrant made her stop and breathe and move more slowly. I also noticed less of her "burp cough" after using the DogPause bowl, which I think I can attribute to the bowl.

The FAQ page is very helpful in learning more about the product and how it can help your dog. At an affordable $17.95, this dog bowl is well worth the money to help your dog slow down and enjoy his or her meal.

Natural treats to promote a healthy pup

Since the massive pet food recall nightmare I have been paying more and more attention to what is in my puppy's food. I switched to an all-natural food right after the recall and was very conscious of what went into his food bowl, but I had forgotten all about the junk in his treat jar! Many of the treats I was feeding him were practically the equivalent to junk food for dogs, full of fillers and unhealthy, fattening ingredients. Now, I feed him all-natural and healthy treats from Dogswell and I am so glad I switched.

Baxter loves the Dogswell Veggie Life Vitality Sweet Potato Fries and wags his tail like a maniac when he sees the bag. They may be a tasty snack for him but with the only ingredients being pure sweet potato, flaxseed, Vitamin E supplement and Vitamin A acetate, I know they are good for him too!

These digestible and long lasting treats make a great alternative to rawhide and they are low in fat, calories and sodium but high in beta-carotene, fiber and minerals. This great mixture of vitamins and minerals provide much more than a tasty snack, they also help promote healthy eyes, skin and coats. What more could you ask for in a treat?!

If you are looking for a healthy and delicious snack for your pampered pooch then Dogswell Veggie Life Vitality Sweet Potato Fries are just what you have been searching for.

"Mom... I'm thirsty!"

With the weather in the northeast becoming nice and warm, our days of being cooped up inside are over. We are either walking in the neighborhood or playing in our other dog friend's yards.

When out with my dog, I make sure now to never leave my house without my dog's newest water bowl from Itzadog.com. These nifty little bowls are called Zuka Bowls, and are just the perfect size for a quick drink or a little something to nibble on. The Zuka Bowls come in two sizes, small and large, and in a wide variety colors and patterns. What I like most about the Zuka Bowl, is that it comes with a handy dandy carabiner that can easily hook onto a belt loop or leash. It can't get much more convenient than that.

Just like us, our furry friends need to be well hydrated in the summer. Make life easy for yourself and your dog, and carry around a Zuka Bowl from Itzadog.com. Your dog will thank you for it.

How slow can you go?

Is your dog a total chowhound, who eats his food so fast he barely leaves time to chew? This behavior is not only a little disturbing to watch but it is also unhealthy for dogs since it can cause bloat which is a potentially fatal condition. The Brake-Fast Bowl is an amazing new bowl that will help slow down your pooch so they can enjoy their food and stay healthy too.

The Brake-Fast bowl works in two ways. First, it has strategically placed obstructions (pegs) so that your dog has to take the time to eat around them and get the food out from between the pegs. Second, it slides around on the floor while your dog is chowing down so that your pup cannot plunge its face into the bowl without it sliding away a bit.

We tested this bowl on a very hungry Sheltie named Buster, who was eating his food so quickly he was throwing up after meals. On his first attempt eating out of the bowl it took him about 5 minutes longer than usual to finish his meal (his normal time was about 45 seconds). I was extremely happy with how well the bowl slowed down his eating so that he actually had time to taste the premium food that he gets fed. Over the span of about a week he did get a bit faster at eating once he figured out how to the bowl worked but it still slows him down a lot and we are very satisfied with the results and he no longer throws up after meals.

The Brake-Fast Bowl comes in plastic and the new metal design and is durable and dishwasher safe. Also, it comes in three sizes so dogs large and small can enjoy the benefits of slower eating (for those flatter face pups out there, go with the small) and it works with kibble or canned food. If your dog eats like the food is going out of style then the Brake-Fast bowl is the answer you have been searching for.

Everybody loves cake... even your pooch!

Who doesn't love cake? When you go to a birthday party, it is really the only reason you hang around until the end, right? Now, your dog doesn't have to drool any longer while you eat cake. Your dog can have some too.

Puppycake.com makes cake mix that even I (believe me... I am no Betty Crocker) can make. The mix comes in two flavors, banana and carob... each one will make your dogs mouth water. Both cake mixes are made with only the best ingredients for the good health of your dog. The directions are clearly written out for you on the box and only need a few added ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. The cakes come with frosting too (that’s the best part of the cake), that again is very simple to make.

So maybe your puppy is having a birthday or you just want to let your pooch know how much you do love ‘em. Make them a cake from Puppycake.com.

Great treat and low fat too!

We all want our dogs to be happy and most importantly, healthy. My dog has a food allergy to chicken, so I am very careful about what I give to him. As a result, my eyes are always open for vegetarian treats for my dog.

I found a website called Bluedogbakery.com, that makes not only vegetarian treats, but they are low fat too. All the treats made by the bakers at Bluedogbakery.com are all natural and contain no animal by-products, artificial flavorings or colorings and no artificial preservatives. This stuff is about as healthy as you can get.

Bluedogbakery.com makes treats for all size dogs. I especially like the small treats. They are easy to take on the run and they are great to stuff into my dog's favorite toy. If you are a new puppy parent, theses treats are just what you need to help in training.

You can purchase these terrific treats at various stores. Check out the Bluedogbakery.com website for a complete listing.

A sweet treat... that's GOOD to eat!

A little over a year ago, I found out that my dog has a food allergy. Every time he ate chicken, he would get sick. It wasn't fun! I changed his food to an all vegetarian diet. But, I was still having trouble finding treats that were easy on his stomach. I found a website called Henryandsons.com and they specialize in making all natural, vegetarian and vegan treats for dogs. Henryandsons.com dog treats do not contain any meat, chicken, pork or fish products. In addition, they also do not contain any lard, animal by-products, anything artificial GMO ingredients, added salt, wheat, corn, soy or chemical preservatives. In other words, this stuff is GREAT for your dog.
Their treats come in a variety of flavors... each one delicious. My dog especially likes the sweet potato flavor. Easily digestible and allergy sensitive formulas are also available. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, or you just want to give your dog the very best, try the treats and biscuits from Henryandsons.com. Your dog will keep coming back for more.

Healthy, organic food for your dog

I recently switched all of my family's food over to natural, organic food. Then I realized my dog isn't eating organically, and I want her to be as healthy as she can be. So I started researching organic dog food.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that one of my favorite organic brands, Newman's Own, also makes organic pet products! They have dry food, wet food, and treats for both dogs and cats in different variety's.

I tried a number of their treats (peanut butter, chicken and more) and my dog loved each and every one. They are a great size for any dog. And she gobbled the dry food as quickly as her good old favorite. I feel better knowing I am giving her all natural food. There are no poultry by-products, no antibiotics or steroids, no chemicals, no artificial colors or flavors, and no wheat or corn. When you read the ingredients it sounds like something you would actually want to eat: organic brown rice, organic oats, natural chicken, organic peas, and more. This is so important for your pet's health!

If you are interested in learning more, check out the Company's FAQ page. You can purchase Newman's Own products from your local pet stores. Here is a list to find a store near you.

Gorgeous, Handmade Dog Bowls, Treat Jars and more

Each dog is unique, so shouldn't they each have their own, personal dog bowl that reflects their look and personality?

I have found an artist, Debby of Faux Paw Productions, who creates beautiful, solid and substantial ceramic dog bowls, treat jars, and other accessories, and can match them to your dog's breed, look, and personality.

These handmade, hand thrown bowls have a nice, glossy finish. They are made of the finest white porcelain china clay and made on a potters wheel. The colors are extremely vibrant and bold. The detail in the artistry is amazing. Debby free hand draws every image; then she paints the bowls individually, bisque fires them for 14 hours, glazes them with three hand coated applications, then finish fires them for 8 more hours, and then cools them down for 20 hours. Each piece is a unique work of art.

Design your own dog bowl or take a look at the current product selection. Also, be sure to take a look at the other special items that Debby creates: portraits of your pet (amazing!!!), dog trivets
and for those with feline friends, plenty of kitty items like bowls, cat clocks, and more.

This is one site you should all check out for amazing custom pieces for your pet. These would make wonderful holiday gifts as well!

Fresh and natural food for your dog!

In my house, I try to buy only the healthiest foods for my family. I shop generally at Whole Foods, try to buy only natural and fresh foods without preservatives, with things like flaxseed and wholesome ingredients. This philosophy applies not only to my kids, but to my dog as well.

I was recently introduced to Homestyle Select meals for dogs. These all-natural, fresh meals are perfect for maintaining your dogs health while giving them a yummy meal, too. These refrigerated meals come in a log (sort of like Toll-house cookies that you slice and bake) and are very easy to use. You just slice it on the marking on the package, serve it to your dog, and then refrigerate it. It is just like fresh cold cuts or other fresh food.

I tried the chicken, vegetable & rice dinner with my dog and she absolutely loved it. Now, to be totally honest, she loves any type of food, but this one she particularly savored extra-long and I saw extra mouth-licking for awhile after she was finished.

I like that the food has real veggies in it and that it is fresh (there is 70% meat in it!) The rice used is brown rice for easy digestion, and there is also flax-seed oil added for healthy skin and coat. The food is part of the PAN diet, which stands for pasteurized, all natural, and nutrient dense. There is a special food for puppies, too.

To learn more, check out this video, or see if there is a sampling event in your area. Print out a coupon and try out this great product with your dog today!
