2. Use all natural cleaning products free of toxic chemicals.

3. Choose eco-friendly pet grooming products made without phosphates, sulfates and other chemicals.

4. Pick eco-friendly pet toys made from organic or recycled materials.

Healthy treats for healthy pets

When I'm looking for tasty new treats for my kids, I always carefully check the labels. I don't want a lot of sugar or fat, and I definitely prefer organic. So why should treats for my dogs be any different?

That's why I was happy to find robbie dawg. It is a Brooklyn-based company that specializes in baking organic dog biscuits and cat treats. These biscuits come in 15 different flavors, and are perfect for your allergic pet or one with a sensitive digestive system.

They contain no wheat, corn or soy and have no artificial ingredients. They also have no wheat or rice gluten, so you know you're giving your dog a healthy snack.

You can choose from such fun flavors as Arroz con Pollo or Peppermint Bark. Robbie dawg also makes 3" tins called Let's Take Your Dog for a Walk, which contain bite-sized training bits that fit neatly in your pocket.

And for those of you who like to bake your own treats, you can order The Everything Cooking for Dogs book, written by Lisa Fortunato, owner/founder of robbie dog. You can order a pre-made NYC Style Pizza Biscuit mix to make it even easier!

Check out robbie dawg to see all their products.

Everybody loves cake... even your pooch!

Who doesn't love cake? When you go to a birthday party, it is really the only reason you hang around until the end, right? Now, your dog doesn't have to drool any longer while you eat cake. Your dog can have some too.

Puppycake.com makes cake mix that even I (believe me... I am no Betty Crocker) can make. The mix comes in two flavors, banana and carob... each one will make your dogs mouth water. Both cake mixes are made with only the best ingredients for the good health of your dog. The directions are clearly written out for you on the box and only need a few added ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. The cakes come with frosting too (that’s the best part of the cake), that again is very simple to make.

So maybe your puppy is having a birthday or you just want to let your pooch know how much you do love ‘em. Make them a cake from Puppycake.com.

Great treat and low fat too!

We all want our dogs to be happy and most importantly, healthy. My dog has a food allergy to chicken, so I am very careful about what I give to him. As a result, my eyes are always open for vegetarian treats for my dog.

I found a website called Bluedogbakery.com, that makes not only vegetarian treats, but they are low fat too. All the treats made by the bakers at Bluedogbakery.com are all natural and contain no animal by-products, artificial flavorings or colorings and no artificial preservatives. This stuff is about as healthy as you can get.

Bluedogbakery.com makes treats for all size dogs. I especially like the small treats. They are easy to take on the run and they are great to stuff into my dog's favorite toy. If you are a new puppy parent, theses treats are just what you need to help in training.

You can purchase these terrific treats at various stores. Check out the Bluedogbakery.com website for a complete listing.

Celebrating St. Patty's Day in Style!

I love getting my dog dressed up for holidays. This year, for St. Patty's Day, my dog Maggie will be sporting a new shamrock collar compliments of Swankypet.net.

These adorable, well-made collars are the only ones my dog wears. They are light-weight and comfortable, adjustable, and of course, stylish. I love the silver buckle -- made of contoured zinc die cast side release buckles, durable slip lock buckles, cast D-rings and heavy nickel plate swivel snap hooks.

There are tons of fabrics to choose from, including seasonal designs for the upcoming holidays. Browse all of the cool fabric selections and I'm sure you'll find something perfect to suit your dog's personality.

Also worth mentioning are the gourmet dog treats. My dog gobbled these yummy carob-dipped treats up in about two seconds. She loved them! Order some special treats for your pup or get some seasonal treats for an extra-special holiday surprise. Yum!

A cafe style drink... for your pup!

In the summer, my husband and I often head to a coffee shop that has outdoor seating so we can bring our dog a long with us. My husband I get a delicious drink to sip while we people watch. My dog, however, gets his usual... water. Well, this does not have to be the case any longer.

My dog can now enjoy a capoochino or a waggalatte from javadumutt.com. These drinks start off as a beef or chicken flavored paste that you mix with water, stick in the microwave for a few seconds and serve warm in a dog dish or coffee mug (that part is up to you). Now, of course, you wouldn't give this drink to your dog in place of water. It is meant to be a treat. In a standard serving, the waggalatte drink has only 20 calories in it, while the capoochino has only 15 calories. This is half the number of calories of some popular dog treats.

The paste comes in one pound tubs, that makes about 75 servings. After you open a tub, it can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

When checking out, enter coupon code 0308 for 20% off your order. But, act fast... it's only good through March 31st.

A sweet treat... that's GOOD to eat!

A little over a year ago, I found out that my dog has a food allergy. Every time he ate chicken, he would get sick. It wasn't fun! I changed his food to an all vegetarian diet. But, I was still having trouble finding treats that were easy on his stomach. I found a website called Henryandsons.com and they specialize in making all natural, vegetarian and vegan treats for dogs. Henryandsons.com dog treats do not contain any meat, chicken, pork or fish products. In addition, they also do not contain any lard, animal by-products, anything artificial GMO ingredients, added salt, wheat, corn, soy or chemical preservatives. In other words, this stuff is GREAT for your dog.
Their treats come in a variety of flavors... each one delicious. My dog especially likes the sweet potato flavor. Easily digestible and allergy sensitive formulas are also available. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, or you just want to give your dog the very best, try the treats and biscuits from Henryandsons.com. Your dog will keep coming back for more.

Healthy, organic food for your dog

I recently switched all of my family's food over to natural, organic food. Then I realized my dog isn't eating organically, and I want her to be as healthy as she can be. So I started researching organic dog food.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that one of my favorite organic brands, Newman's Own, also makes organic pet products! They have dry food, wet food, and treats for both dogs and cats in different variety's.

I tried a number of their treats (peanut butter, chicken and more) and my dog loved each and every one. They are a great size for any dog. And she gobbled the dry food as quickly as her good old favorite. I feel better knowing I am giving her all natural food. There are no poultry by-products, no antibiotics or steroids, no chemicals, no artificial colors or flavors, and no wheat or corn. When you read the ingredients it sounds like something you would actually want to eat: organic brown rice, organic oats, natural chicken, organic peas, and more. This is so important for your pet's health!

If you are interested in learning more, check out the Company's FAQ page. You can purchase Newman's Own products from your local pet stores. Here is a list to find a store near you.

Ice Cream Treats for your Dog

My dog is obsessed with food. She has eaten everything from cat litter-box treats to filet. One of her all-time favorite treats, though, is Frosty Paws, ice cream made for dogs.

Dogs love these treats because they are refreshing and yummy. And you can feel good about giving it to your dog because the ice cream is fortified with protein, vitamins and minerals that dogs need, and there is no added sugar, artificial flavors or colors.

Available in original flavor and in peanut butter, the treats come in dixie-type cups so they are easy to give to your dog. (I just stick the cup in my dog's bowl and she stays there for awhile licking away!)

If you are interested in learning more, check out this interesting article that tells you more about Frosty Paws.

Available at most grocery stores in your freezer section, try them today!

Popcorn for your dog!

My dog absolutely loves popcorn. Every time we make a big bowl he forgets all his training and practically jumps into my lap to get some. Harold slurps up every piece that drops on the ground and manages to get a few from us as well. He usually ends up getting to eat more popcorn than we do. Thanks to WoofyPop, no more sharing your popcorn with the dog when he can have his own!

WoofyPop Dog Popcorn is made just for our furry friends. High in fiber, it comes in delectable flavors such as grilled filet mignon, creamy cheddar cheese, roasted chicken and sizzling bacon. Harold loved the bacon and chicken flavors. I stayed away from the cheese, as much as Harold likes it his stomach does not.

We first learned about it through a friend who purchased it in a pet boutique but it is also available online at target.com and many other online stores. WoofyPop comes in 12 packs of single-serve 1.6 ounce bags that make 4 cups of popped corn. Recommended serving size: 1 cup for every 10 lbs. of dog’s weight. So remember for the smaller dogs save some for another time!

A great tasting, healthy treat

I'm sure many of you out there have tried Greenies with your pets. These green dental chews have been around for years and have been very popular with all types of dogs. But a couple of years ago, I stopped feeding my dog Greenies because I was worried about her choking on them. (A few dogs had problems with them). Since that time, Greenies have changed and are now "easy to digest" and no longer a health threat to your dog.

My dog absolutely loves these treats. And I love them, too, because they help to freshen her (generally awful) breath while helping to clean her teeth and providing her with a good, nutritious treat. The blend of proteins, vitamins, and minerals make it a great snack for your dog.

They come in five sizes, each with a different firmness appropriate for that size dog. The new chewy texture helps clean teeth to the gum line. And I love that they have special Greenies for dogs on a diet (Greenies Lite) and for the senior dog (Greenies Senior).

Try out a free sample today and let your dog enjoy a Greenies treat!

Gorgeous, Handmade Dog Bowls, Treat Jars and more

Each dog is unique, so shouldn't they each have their own, personal dog bowl that reflects their look and personality?

I have found an artist, Debby of Faux Paw Productions, who creates beautiful, solid and substantial ceramic dog bowls, treat jars, and other accessories, and can match them to your dog's breed, look, and personality.

These handmade, hand thrown bowls have a nice, glossy finish. They are made of the finest white porcelain china clay and made on a potters wheel. The colors are extremely vibrant and bold. The detail in the artistry is amazing. Debby free hand draws every image; then she paints the bowls individually, bisque fires them for 14 hours, glazes them with three hand coated applications, then finish fires them for 8 more hours, and then cools them down for 20 hours. Each piece is a unique work of art.

Design your own dog bowl or take a look at the current product selection. Also, be sure to take a look at the other special items that Debby creates: portraits of your pet (amazing!!!), dog trivets
and for those with feline friends, plenty of kitty items like bowls, cat clocks, and more.

This is one site you should all check out for amazing custom pieces for your pet. These would make wonderful holiday gifts as well!

Fresh and natural food for your dog!

In my house, I try to buy only the healthiest foods for my family. I shop generally at Whole Foods, try to buy only natural and fresh foods without preservatives, with things like flaxseed and wholesome ingredients. This philosophy applies not only to my kids, but to my dog as well.

I was recently introduced to Homestyle Select meals for dogs. These all-natural, fresh meals are perfect for maintaining your dogs health while giving them a yummy meal, too. These refrigerated meals come in a log (sort of like Toll-house cookies that you slice and bake) and are very easy to use. You just slice it on the marking on the package, serve it to your dog, and then refrigerate it. It is just like fresh cold cuts or other fresh food.

I tried the chicken, vegetable & rice dinner with my dog and she absolutely loved it. Now, to be totally honest, she loves any type of food, but this one she particularly savored extra-long and I saw extra mouth-licking for awhile after she was finished.

I like that the food has real veggies in it and that it is fresh (there is 70% meat in it!) The rice used is brown rice for easy digestion, and there is also flax-seed oil added for healthy skin and coat. The food is part of the PAN diet, which stands for pasteurized, all natural, and nutrient dense. There is a special food for puppies, too.

To learn more, check out this video, or see if there is a sampling event in your area. Print out a coupon and try out this great product with your dog today!
