No Poops, No Oops? What?

Just when you thought you had seen it all...along comes the PooTrap. I have to say, I've never seen such a bizarre product for pet waste management! With the PooTrap, your dog poops directly into a sanitary bag.

So how does it work? There are four steps to fastening the PooTrap and they come in all different sizes to fit all dog breeds.
1. Place the u-shaped opening at the base of the dog's tail.
2. Buckle the hook to the dog's collar/harness. Adjust the back straps for a snug fit.
3. Adjust the lower straps and fasten the left buckle.
4. Fasten the right buckle.

Is it just me, or does that not sound EASY? I don't know about you and your dog, but I have a hard enough time putting a harness on Axel when he is revved up to go on a walk. I couldn't imagine attaching the PooTrap! They also suggest that the dog wears the PooTrap for most of his walk in case he poops more than once...I can't imagine Axel enjoying his walk and playtime at the dogpark with the PooTrap attached to his rear-end!

According to their Q&A - 98% of dogs will get used to the PooTrap within three days: "Soon they'll make the connection between "going out" and the "PooTrap"and wearing Pootrap will become a favorite activity." If that becomes your dog's favorite activity, I think you need to take a good, long look at the quality of your best friend's life!

The PooTrap sells for between $29.95 and $38.95 depending on the size of your dog. The bags cost extra - about $8 for a pack of 30. Find out more at http://www.pootrapusa.com/

Poo Bags!

Continuing the theme of poo...check out the POO-PAK by Fashion Victim. This fashionable bag hides the unsightly plastic bags of poo. It also provides generous storage so that you can store extra bags, such as the Flush Doggy bags that Allie just reviewed. And right now these hand-crafted bags are a steal for only $10!

The Poo-Pak measures 10 1/2” hi x 9” wide (adequate for small or large breeds) and closes with a matching drawstring. The pocket easily holds 3 plastic grocery bags, 4 or 5 plastic newspaper bags or 2 full rolls of pick up bags sold at the large pet specialty stores. Both the bag and pocket are fully lined with attractive contrast fabrics. The pocket includes a hand painted paw print. All fabrics are heavy duty and all stress points are double stitched. POO-PAK can be hand washed and line dried. Check out the different Poo-Pak styles here.

Flush the poop, save the planet

Do you ever think about how many bags of poop you throw away each year and where it ends up? I used to toss 2 bags of poop in the trash each day without much thought, until I learned that those bags can take up to 1000 years to degrade. Even worse, dog poop takes up 3.4% of residential landfills and can pollute our waterways (yuck!). So if throwing the poop away is bad for the environment, then what should we do with it? Flush it, of course!

Flush Doggy has created a flushable, biodegradable poop bag that is the safest and most environmentally friendly way to dispose of dog waste. The bags are made of a water soluble material and all you need to do is pick up the poop as you do with a normal bag, bring it inside and flush the whole thing, bag and all. Don't worry, the bags are strong enough to pick up waste and soften when placed in the water of your toilet and eventually dissolve in the sewage system so they won't clog your toilet.

If you want to get rid of poop without harming the environment then Flush Doggy is the way to go. Give them a try by ordering 6 sample bags for only the cost of shipping and handling ($1.99) and see for yourself how easy it is to dispose of your pup's waste in the safest way possible for the environment. Also, 10% of proceeds go to the ASPCA for fighting against puppy mills so you can pat yourself on the back for making a difference in the world today by simply ordering these bags and flushing your swanky pup's poop.

A Solution To What To Do With The Poo!

We all have the same problem. You take your pooch for a walk, he or she does their business and then you are left carrying in a bag the poop until you get back to your house to throw it immediately in the trashcan.

Now, when you leave your house, you can carry around with a mini trashcan, called the Muksak, that you can use to deposit the poop into. It's a gray can that comes with a strap so you can carry it on your shoulder. The lid on the Muksak is smell and leak proof. There is nothing worse than picking up a bag and finding that it has a hole in it. Having the Muksak solves this problem.

At some point, you may have to clean your Muksak. It's easy. Just clean it with soap and water and you're good to go (no pun intended).

There are other dog related products available on the Muksak website. Check them out and when your dog has to use the "can", grab this can!

I Pick Up!

Picking up poop. Not the most glamorous part of being a dog parent. In the past, I’ve typically used plastic grocery bags to dispose of Jax’s waste. While I always prided myself for being a responsible pet parent, I recently learned that these bags actually are not environmentally friendly. In my effort to become greener, I found a way to pick up poop stylishly and help the environment with The Kemp. This smart, hand-made, eco-friendly bag was created by Bibi Rogers at 4U2ReUSE and is designed to conveniently attach to a leash or belt loop.

The Kemp is available in two sizes—Petit, holds up to 10 biodegradable bags and Grande, holds up to 14 biodegradable bags as well a cell phone and keys. Each Kemp is made from completely organic fabrics and re-used materials such as vintage clothing or defective/non-repairable kite boarding sails. Bibi is committed to promoting sustainability stating, “I also use local materials and fabric providers to cut down on shipping, energy consumption and other operational waste in the manufacturing process.” The Kemp comes in a variety of colors such as Burberry Denim, Rainbow Denim and Blue Kite. Get The Kemp here for $22 with free shipping on all orders!

Ice That Poop!

I kid you not. There is an ingenious product out there called Poop Freeze - the product's slogan is, "Poop Happens - Just Freeze it. Because it's Your Dootie!"

I'm sure we've all faced the stinky situation of having to clean up a runny poop/diarrhea either outdoors, or horrors, on our lovely new carpet. Poop Freeze "frosts" poop to -62F in order to make it easier to pick-up.

All you do is spray…wait 10 seconds…and a white crusty film solidifies the poop. Simple as that. You can watch how it works in their infomercial (right). It is 100% environmentally friendly -- the product contains no CFC’s that destroy the ozone and is not harmful to vegetation. It is also non-flammable but extreme care should be taken when using the product. It should be stored in a cool place and contact with skin should be avoided as it can cause frostbite.

When I tested it out on Axel's poop I found it worked pretty well but the bigger the turd, the more spraying was required and the aerosol (I had the sample 4 oz can) got used up pretty fast. I would definitely use this product in the future but I would save it for runny poop emergencies, not your run-of-the-mill dooties.

A 10 oz aerosol can of Poop Freeze will set you back $14.95, but use the coupon code “firstpoop” to save 10% off your purchase.

Doggy Dooley Does It Right

Imagine having a septic system just for your dog. That's exactly what the Doggy Dooley system does for you. We have three dogs and the waste in the backyard can get to be a little much, especially when we want to mow the lawn or play in the pool. Who wants to smell that?

The system is pretty easy to install. You just dig the proper dimension hole and drop it in. Add water and the Digestive Powder and you're all set. Once you place waste into the septic system, the enzymes and bacteria in the Digestive Powder breaks down the waste. It even has a handy foot-operatated lid opener. It comes in two sizes; one is for up to two dogs and the other can handle a four dog household depending on the sizes of your dogs.

The price is affordable as well. You can get a Doggy Dooley Septic System in the $30price range and it's well worth it. Check it out at Pet Smart!

"Nasty Habit" by Nutri-Vet

Pearl, my entirely white ten-month-old Pit Bull Terrier mix, is so adorable that I can hardly contain myself. I say her name in silly voices, scratch her back and rub her belly, and I can’t kiss her enough. To me, she is altogether perfect. Well almost. She has one behavioral issue that doesn’t seem to mesh with her character: my little Pearly girl eats her own poop!

There are a few reasons why a dog may feel inclined to do this. For one, it’s a survival tool. Dogs instinctually know not to leave evidence of their presence for other potential predators to pick up on. So, if your dog senses danger, he or she may want to “eliminate the elimination.” Poop eating could also be a behavior your pup picked up from his or her mother. After all, don’t all children imitate their elders? And although it’s a strange way to blow off steam, dogs actually use this terrible indulgence as a way to relieve stress. Talk about comfort food!

Enter Nasty Habit, a chewable tablet by Nutri-Vet that works to prevent dogs from consuming their own feces. Each pill contains a healthy dose of Cayenne Pepper, a spice that is disagreeable to dogs and so defers them from “re-consuming” their food. Nasty Habit also contains Chamomile, an herb that works to calm canine nerves and lower stress levels so that your dog won’t feel the need to do this awful deed.

Nasty Habit is an effective and inexpensive product that can be found at your local pet store or ordered directly from the Nutri-Vet website. Since I started adding these caplets to Pearl’s morning and evening meals, she has stopped her unnecessary snacking, and she is oh-so-perfect again!

Poopie Pick Up Kits from Bon Ton

Except in your own backyard, it is a widely known fact that you must pick up after your pup poops. There are pooper scoopers and a variety of products out there to help you do this, but the easiest, most portable and most popular method is a plain old plastic bag. All you need to do is remember to bring a bag out with you on your walks and you are good to go. But if you, like me, have trouble remembering a bag every time you go out you could be stuck empty handed and forced to leave the pile and keep walking. Thanks to the disposal pick up kit by Bon Ton, which attaches to your pup’s leash, you won’t have to worry about forgetting any longer!

This bone-shaped, plastic bag holder comes with a hook that allows you to attach it to the handle of your leash so that wherever you go, the bags go too. Not only are they extremely functional, but they also come in a variety of colors so that you can get one to match your dog’s leash. Each Bon Ton pick up kit comes with a roll of 10 bags already inside, but refilling is easy too. Just pop the end cap off, slide the new roll on and you are back in business.

I have the bright blue kit for my dog Baxter and I love that I no longer have to worry about remembering to bring bags with me all the time. Also, it is cute and simple so it doubles as an accessory that you won’t mind bringing along for your walks.

If remembering to bring a bag is a hassle you don’t want to deal with any longer, this adorable Bon Ton pick up kit is just what you need, and at $8.95 it is easy on your budget too.

K-9 Can Makes for Happier Walks

It's an inevitable part of walking your dog: picking up the poop. You scoop it up with your plastic bag, tie a knot, and then continue your walk, toting that bag 'o poop with you until you find the nearest garbage can - which, if you're on a trail, might not be til you get home.

That's why the K-9 Can Pet Waste and Travel Pack is such a convenience. It is a container that your dog wears around his neck. It has a zipper compartment for you to store the bag of poop so your dog is stylishly carrying it - not you - until you can find a place to dispose of it.

The K-9 Can also has other compartments for bags, wipes, your cell phone and keys, treats or anything else you might need for your walk.

We love that the product is also environmentally friendly. It's made in the USA out of fabric spun from 100 percent recycled soda cans. The surface is anti-microbial and it's also machine washable.

The K-9 can comes in four colors and is available for $34.95 at Planet Earth Pets. It's a light-weight, easy-to-use product that can make your outing with your dog more pleasant while keeping our earth a little cleaner.

Jingle, jingle... I have to tinkle!

Wouldn't it be nice if your dog could say to you, "Hey! I gotta go out!"? Well, now they can with Poochie Bells. Poochie-Bells are jingle bells that are hung on decorative ribbon. You simply hang the bells on your door that your dog most uses to go out, and with a little training and, of course some positive reinforcement, your dog will ring the bells when he or she has some business to attend to outside. The bells come with a small instruction card on how the training should be done. There are a wide variety of ribbons to choose from to match any room decor. It's not likely that you are ever going to hear your dog speak, but Poochie-Bells are a great alternative. At checkout, enter "SWANKYPUP" and receive free standard shipping on your purchase. Ding-a-ling-a-ling!

Poop scooping goes hi-tech

For me, having a dog is one of the biggest joys in the world. Unfortunately, owning a dog does come with one major drawback: they poop and it is our job as owners to pick it up. Now, thanks to Swoop, this job has become much less yucky.

Swoop not only picks up the poop for you but it also bags it so all you have to do is walk it over to the trash can and drop it in. It sounds too good to be true, right? Well I have been using it with my puppy Baxter and it really is everything I was hoping for! All you have to do is put a special bag over the top of the Swoop (it looks like a mini shower cap), pull back the funnel revealing the claw, place it over the poo and hit a button. Voila! The poop has been successfully scooped and bagged and best of all, the Swoop did all the dirty work.

The Swoop operates using a reverse spring so no batteries are required and because it never actually touches the poop you don’t even have to clean it after each use. Also, it has a handy strap so it will be easy for you to carry around and take out on your walks or in your yard. Because the Swoop scoops and bags individual piles, I recommend this product most for people who pick up after their dog every time they go potty, but anyone who hates this dirty deed will consider the Swoop man/woman’s second best friend.

Your backyard...in a box

Recently, my puppy and I were introduced to The Pet Loo, an innovative potty solution that brings your backyard into a box. The Pet Loo arrived at my door fully assembled and ready to go. All you have to do is put the synthetic grass on top of the box, place it where you would like your dog to go and it is ready to be used. When your dog pees on the box it is funneled into a collection chamber at the bottom, making it very easy to empty and keeping your pups paws clean after he goes to the bathroom. For poop, just scoop it up just like you would outside and the mess is gone.

This is a great product for anyone who lives in an apartment building, people who need/want their dog to go potty inside, elderly pups who have trouble holding their bladder or anyone lacking grass for their pooch at their home. I live on the 5th floor of an apartment building, so keeping The Loo on our balcony has been a convenient addition to our household, especially since my puppy goes to the bathroom so frequently and would have a rough time holding it while we walked down the hall, got in the elevator and then made our way out to the grass.

Unlike a pee pad, The Loo simulates grass and your yard, which is a more natural place for your pup to go to the bathroom and will make the transition from real grass to an indoor potty much easier. Also, to ease the transition onto The Pet Loo , they offer great training videos on their website so your pup can learn to use the product quickly and easily.

The Pet Loo comes in 2 different sizes for you to choose from depending on your pups size. Also, if your dog likes to wander a bit to find the perfect spot to go, I recommend the bigger size so he has some space to sniff around first. If you want a creative and convenient indoor potty solution, The Pet Loo is what you have been searching for!

Pick up poop, save the environment

What are you using to pick up your dogs poop? If you are like most people you’re probably using regular old plastic bags collected from grocery shopping trips or other stores. Until now I was doing the same, until I discovered the biodegradable poop bags from Poopbags.com.

These bags are corn-based, a great size and very soft. They are also a dark color so the yucky contents will be concealed while you carry it to the nearest trashcan. Most importantly, they are 100% biodegradable so you are contributing to keeping our society clean and doing the right thing for the environment. Using these bags will take away the guilt of harming the environment with regular plastic bags, without losing out on any of the functionality of other bags on the market.

Why pick up something biodegradable with something that is not? Try these poop bags and get an entire month supply for less than $5 AND get free shipping on all orders!
